The competition sets the focus on the materials science, which is an interdisciplinary field that describes the physical properties of materials, and helps create new ones. Specifically, «Sounds of Matter» focuses on 7 research projects currently being carried out at the University of Vienna, in the following areas:

Composers from all over the world are invited to find inspiration in any of the audiovisual material (images, animations, graphs), concepts or experimental data available online at matter.soundsof.net/materials. The pieces that best translate into music the work of these seven research teams, will be performed  in May 2018  in a public concert in Vienna, where a jury made up of composers and physicists will make its final decision.

Congratulations to all selected composers, and thank you very much for the amount and quality of the pieces submitted. We have received 60+ compositions from over 26 different countries. Next, see you on the Final concert that will take place on the 3rd of May at the Campus of the University of Vienna. Stay tuned!
